Your hair is called your “crowning glory” for a reason — it’s part of your identity and contributes to your self-esteem and confidence. But for some, it can be disheartening when hair starts to recede, thin or fall out. Hair loss is a common condition experienced by both men and women alike. While there are people that go through hair shedding, it can get concerning when it becomes excessive.

Unfortunately, hair loss is an unavoidable phenomenon for many people. It can be caused by genetics as well as a variety of other factors, including diet, stress, illness, hormonal imbalance, and medication. Luckily for most people, it can be combatted through hair transplantation.

What is a hair transplant?

Hair transplantation is a sought-after hair loss treatment that involves moving healthy follicles that you have in your head and implanting them to areas that have little to no hair. The surgeon will move the hair from the back or side of your head to the top or front.

There are two types of transplant procedures currently available: slit grafts and micrografts. Slit grafts contain 4 to 10 hairs per graft, while micrografts contain only 1 to 2 hairs per graft.

Who can benefit from a hair transplant?

Men who experience male pattern baldness, women with thinning hair, and anyone who has lost a significant chunk of their hair from burns or scalp injuries are usually great candidates for a hair transplant. However, it may not be a good option for women who have a widespread pattern of hair loss throughout their scalp, people who don’t have enough areas in their hair to source follicles from, people who have incurred keloid scars due to injury or surgery, and people whose hair loss was caused by medication like chemotherapy – always seek professional medical advice first.

Signs that you need a hair transplant

If hair loss is becoming a problem for you, here are some signs that it may be a good time to consider hair transplant as a viable option:

You’re old enough.

Men and women alike can experience hair loss at any age past puberty, but if you are still young, it may not be a good idea to jump into hair transplantation right away. Even though you’re undergoing premature balding, surgeons recommend that you wait until you are in your 30s and beyond to go through the treatment. This is because it’s hard to determine the shape of your hair loss pattern when you’re still young. You have to wait until the balding reaches a certain degree.

You have enough donor hair.

While it may seem counterintuitive, you would still need to have a substantial amount of hair on your head if you want to go through some types of hair transplant procedures. You will be considered a good candidate if you have enough donor hair follicles from the sides or back of your head, chest, arms, legs, or back. You would also have to be under classes 3 and 6 on the Norwood scale (the leading classification system used to measure the extent of male pattern baldness). Without enough donor hair, a hair transplant may not be successful.

You’ve been balding for five years or more.

At the first sign of significant hair loss, your initial instinct might be to treat it right away. But you have to keep in mind that hair loss is a gradual process, and it’s recommended that you wait it out at least five years for the doctor to understand the pattern of your hair loss. After that, then they’ll be able to customise an approach that yields the best approach for you.

If you’ve passed all the signs above, then you know you’re ready for a hair transplant.

As one of the hottest cosmetic surgery options on the market, hair transplant surgery has given hundreds of thousands of people a new start in their lives and regained confidence in themselves by helping to grow natural hair for those who need it most.

In contrast to wearing wigs or getting hair tattoos, hair transplant surgery is on a completely different level as it allows medical professionals to breathe life back into the scalps of struggling patients once more. Such procedures give them the gift to grow their hair again naturally.

If you’re considering undergoing hair transplant surgery, then it’s important to note that there are quite a few essential tips to know about the procedure. Keep on reading to find out more…

Tip #1: Brush up on all you need to know about the procedure itself

Admittedly, going through the entire process of hair surgery itself can go two ways:

  1. You can become afraid of it because it’s an entirely foreign concept and it seems painful when the term “transplant” is considered
  2. The procedure doesn’t seem that serious, so you take it much more lightly than you ever should

Although both of these reactions can be understandable to some extent, there’s just one problem: neither of them is realistic. If you’re new to the entire concept of getting a hair transplant surgery, then it’s best to understand that knowing about the procedure itself can go a long way in helping you put it into perspective and to make an informed decision.

By running a few quick searches on Google, reading a few of our guides, watching videos on YouTube, and speaking to our qualified specialist consultants, you’ll be able to come prepared for your consultation sessions and the actual procedure. Aside from being good practice for forming realistic expectations, brushing up on all you need to know about the hair transplant surgery can ease your nerves immediately before your procedure!

Tip #2: Choose on the right hair transplant specialist

Aside from considering the technicalities of the actual procedure itself, another effective way to ensure that your plans for getting a hair transplant will go as planned is to pick the right specialist for the job.

If you’ve watched various TV shows, such as the reality TV hit “Botched”, then you’re most likely familiar with how terrible the outcome of getting a bad medical or cosmetic medical procedure can be. Before you book your session and drop the payment for your hair transplant procedure, ensure your selected hair transplant consultant has the right accreditation and excellent feedback. All our hair transplant consultants and surgeons hold the highest levels of accreditation and have hundreds of happy clients worldwide so just drop us a message if you have any questions.

Tip #3: Choose the right hair transplant treatment option for your needs

Although it may seem like you might need a hair transplant procedure done right away, there are some cases where people end up spending a fortune and suffering over a treatment option they didn’t need in the first place. Once you’ve managed to book a consultation session with your chosen professional, ask about proven alternatives to surgery to keep your options open and your bank account intact!

Our specialists are trained to offer the best options for you while giving you all the relevant information so you can make the best decision for yourself.

Tip #4: Don’t be afraid to ask them how they’ll help you manage the pain

While it may not necessarily be a major process or experience as other surgical procedures, hair transplant surgery may sometimes require effective pain management although everyone is different. This is why it is important to inquire about a clinic’s pain management program and expected pain levels. Now, before you settle on your final schedule and payment for the hair transplant surgery itself, it is absolutely important to talk to the doctor about the post-surgery plan so that you can prepare for the recovery period!

Final words

Hair transplant surgery is a procedure that can easily make a significant impact on the lives of those that receive it. This just goes to show how important it is to take the right preparatory steps and tips into consideration. If you’re looking to get a hair transplant treatment or surgery option in the near future and change your life for the better, consider these four top tips!

Types of Hair Transplant

In this post, we’re going to explore the topic of hair transplants, specifically, the two main types and procedures of hair transplantation. To start off with, before we go diving in, we’re going to look at what they are, the different types of hair transplants, what your options are should you be thinking  about having a hair transplant and finally, what the benefits of having the procedure done in Turkey are over anywhere else, including our home the UK for treatment.

There are two main forms of hair transplant with these being FUE and FUSS methods. Today we’re going to look into each of them and the differences between them.

What is a hair transplant and who is it for??

As the name suggests, this medical procedure is all to do with hair. It moves hair from a place on your head where you have plenty of hair over to an area that might be affected by balding. If you have androgenetic alopecia it is still a suitable option for you or if you have parts of your skin affected by burns but isn’t ideal if you have alopecia areata. Here in England, hair transplants are not performed or available on the NHS and so you would need to check the Care Quality Commission (CQC) website which lists all the centres that carry out hair transplant procedures in the UK. If they aren’t registered here, then they are not qualified to carry out hair transplantation procedures in the United Kingdom.

FUSS Hair Transplant Procedure

FUSS is a form of hair transplant that involves removing follicular units form a strip on your scalp. The process is usually a lot faster than the alternative method of which that being FUE. Typically, more grafts can be taken of donor’s hair in this procedure however it is a slightly more invasive procedure in comparison to FUE. The procedure itself can also take a lot longer than that of FUE.

FUE Hair Transplant procedure

An FUE hair transplant is also known as ‘follicular unit extraction’ and is one of the least invasive ways of getting your hair transplant done and is also the most common method of hair transplant in Turkey. The hair to be transplanted is taken from the strongest areas of your scalp also known as the donor. Using this genetically stronger hair boosts your chances of a full regrowth of transplanted hair.

Will It Work?

Although the medical procedure is significantly more effective than if you were to buy any over the counter product, it isn’t 100% guaranteed. However, studies have found that anywhere from around 10% to 80% of your transplanted hair will grow back within just a few months. Of course, the more hair you have available to the transplant on top of considering the quality of the treatment you’re receiving will boost your chances of getting more of your transplanted hair grown back.

What Does It Cost?

Over here in the UK hair transplants are not available on the NHS so the only option for us Brits is to go private and that can be very costly. The average cost of a hair transplant in the UK can cost anywhere from £1,000 to an absolutely eye-watering £30,000! The exact cost will come down to how much hair you have lost, what type of procedure you require and the quality of the clinic you’re visiting. However, in Turkey as you’ll read about shortly, the cost over there is just a fraction of the cost in the UK, and that reduced price doesn’t mean that they compromise on quality at all. Turkey has been making big investments into innovation to provide these lower prices to customers. as well as the world-class facilities

Why Turkey?

Affordability is why so many people are going to Turkey for their hair transplant treatment. The same treatment that could cost you up to £30,000 over here in the UK will cost you, on average, between a modest £1,500 to £4,000 depending on what type of treatment you’re being provided. Surgeons specialising in hair transplant treatment in Turkey are also some of the most highly trained in the world and all the hospitals that perform treatment conform to and many exceed all EU regulations.

Around 60,000 people each year visit Turkey for hair transplants alone. This is a considerable portion out of the 750,000 people in total who visit there in total for health tourism. Also, the costs of a return flight to Turkey won’t usually set you back more than £200 with hotels being no more than £50 a night. This means that you can also stay a few days and make a holiday out of it whilst at the same time making considerable savings of thousands of pounds compared to getting it done over here in the UK.
